LINO LAKES, MN — A Minnesota Department of Corrections officer is charged with bringing contraband into a state prison after investigators allegedly found nine sheets of suspected drug-infused paper on him as he entered the Minnesota Correctional Facility–Lino Lakes.
Minu Yang, 27, is accused of participating in a plan involving an incarcerated person and that person’s mother to bring drugs into the facility in exchange for $2,000.
According to court documents described in local news reporting, investigators received information on October 19, 2026, about an ongoing effort to smuggle controlled substances into the prison. Authorities allege Yang was to receive the materials by mail at his home and bring nine sheets of beading paper into the facility on Monday, October 26.
Investigators arrested Yang shortly after he entered the facility that day and recovered nine sheets of paper matching the description discussed in recorded calls, according to the charges.
Authorities allege Yang admitted during an interview that he knew the papers would contain drugs and that he had been promised $2,000 to bring them inside. The suspected drug-infused papers were still undergoing testing when the case was reported. The substance and laboratory results have not been confirmed in the reporting reviewed for this article.
The Department of Corrections said Yang remains employed as a Corrections Officer 2 but is not assigned to work within a facility. He began working for the department on July 3, 2024.
DOC said its Office of Special Investigations worked with the Lino Lakes Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on the investigation. The department said it takes action when allegations of staff criminal activity arise and described facility safety and security as a priority.
The charges are allegations. Yang is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. A case number, bail amount and next court appearance were not independently verified for this article.
