ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA — Joseph Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing Christine Morris, the 33-year-old mother of his child.
A Ramsey County judge imposed the 480-month sentence on Monday, October 26, 2026, according to KSTP’s reporting on the court proceedings. Davis, 36, received credit for 514 days already served.
Davis pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder. Five other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Police found Morris during a welfare check at her St. Paul home in May 2025. Officers discovered a toddler on a couch in the living room and Morris dead in a bedroom. Earlier reporting places the welfare check in the early morning of May 2 at a home in the 300 block of Edmund Avenue.
According to the complaint as described in news coverage, investigators learned that Davis had told a family member he killed Morris. Friends also provided information about warnings Morris had shared before her death.
One friend showed police messages in which Morris said Davis would be responsible if she or her daughter were found dead or went missing. Another described frequent messages from Davis accusing Morris of cheating, according to KSTP’s account of the investigation.
Investigators reported that Davis expressed regret during questioning. His guilty plea and sentencing resolve the intentional-murder charge in Morris’s death.
