Jaquan Darrian Edwards, 30, arrested in fatal shooting aboard Metro Transit Green Line train
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting aboard a Metro Transit Green Line light rail train earlier this month, according to an October 30 announcement from the Minneapolis Police Department and Metro Transit Police Department supplied to Minnesota Now.
Jaquan Darrian Edwards, 30, was arrested following a nearly four-week investigation into the October 3, 2026, shooting. Authorities said he is expected to face a second-degree murder charge. A filed criminal complaint was not provided with the announcement.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on October 3 while a Green Line train was traveling eastbound from the Stadium Village station in Minneapolis toward St. Paul.
According to investigators, the train stopped at the Westgate station near University Avenue and Curfew Street after reports of gunfire aboard the train.
Metro Transit Police officers located an adult victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel and St. Paul firefighters attempted lifesaving measures on the Westgate station platform, but the victim died at the scene.
Authorities reported that the suspect exited the train shortly after the shooting.
Following the incident, Minneapolis Police Department forensic scientists processed the crime scene, while MPD homicide detectives began investigating with assistance from Metro Transit Police.
Over the following weeks, investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department, Metro Transit Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and additional law enforcement agencies worked together to identify and locate the suspect.
On Friday, October 30, authorities announced Edwards’ arrest in connection with the homicide.
Minneapolis Interim Police Chief Billy Peterson credited investigators and their law enforcement partners for their work while acknowledging the loss experienced by the victim’s family. Peterson said an arrest cannot undo the victim’s death but expressed hope that the development provides some reassurance as the case moves forward.
Metro Transit Police Chief Joseph Dotseth also thanked the agencies involved and emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing violence throughout the transit system. Dotseth said Metro Transit Police will continue maintaining a visible presence of officers and security personnel to improve safety for passengers.
The supplied announcement did not provide further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, a possible motive or the relationship between Edwards and the victim.
MPD incident number: 26-287335.
The investigation remains ongoing. Edwards is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
