Musab Kosar Pleads Guilty to Third-Degree Murder in Crash That Killed Benjamin Villano

ST. PAUL, MN — Musab Ibrahim Kosar, 23, of Fridley pleaded guilty Monday, October 26, 2026, to third-degree murder in a high-speed crash that killed Benjamin Michael Villano in St. Paul last year, according to court documents described by KARE 11.
Kosar is scheduled to be sentenced January 22, 2027. Villano, 31, died at the scene of the November 12, 2025 crash near Dale Street and Concordia Avenue.
According to the criminal complaint, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper detected Kosar’s Tesla traveling nearly 30 mph over the speed limit near the Pascal Street ramp on Interstate 94. The trooper followed without activating emergency lights or a siren as the Tesla accelerated beyond 100 mph.
Prosecutors said Kosar turned off the Tesla’s lights as he approached the Dale Street exit. The trooper lost sight of the vehicle, then saw sparks and smoke near the intersection and found the collision.
Court documents say footage and vehicle data obtained from the Tesla showed speeds ranging from approximately 103.24 mph to 87.28 mph before and during the recorded event. The accelerator pedal was manually pressed as high as 51.6 percent, according to the complaint. The footage also showed the vehicle’s lights were off on I-94 and the exit ramp.
A crash reconstruction report separately estimated the Tesla was traveling between 75 and 89 mph at impact. That impact estimate is distinct from the higher speeds recorded earlier in the sequence.
Villano was driving a Toyota RAV4. Earlier reporting identified him as a professional baker who worked at Rose Street Patisserie in St. Paul and Patisserie 46 in Minneapolis.
Kosar was initially charged with criminal vehicular homicide following the crash. The latest court reporting identifies the offense to which he pleaded guilty as third-degree murder. A final sentence has not yet been imposed in the reporting reviewed for this article.
