ANOKA, Minn. — Jordan Collins Sr., who was convicted in October of murdering his 16-year-old son, faces a new fourth-degree assault charge involving a correctional employee after an alleged attack on a deputy at the Anoka County Jail, FOX 9 reported November 4.

According to the charging documents described by FOX 9, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on August 2 in the jail’s day space area. A deputy entered to conduct inmate checks. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Collins approaching the deputy and striking him in the face as he walked past. Staff then used a Taser and detained Collins, according to the report. The deputy told investigators that he had not spoken with Collins before the incident and described what happened as being “sucker punched.” FOX 9’s report did not identify a motive for the alleged assault.

The new charge is separate from Collins’ conviction for second-degree intentional murder in the death of his son, Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr. A jury returned that verdict on October 7, 2026, following a trial in which Collins represented himself. Jurors deliberated for approximately three and a half hours before finding him guilty, according to FOX 9’s coverage of the verdict. Manny was temporarily living with his father in Columbia Heights when he disappeared in May 2025. His mother, who normally lived with him in St. Paul, reported him missing. The investigation eventually led authorities to an Elk River landfill, where his remains were recovered after a prolonged search.

During the murder trial, prosecutors presented evidence tracing the movement of Manny’s remains from a dumpster behind his father’s apartment through the waste-disposal system to the landfill. FOX 9’s trial coverage described the use of surveillance footage, truck movements and weigh-station information to follow that route.

Collins’ sentencing in the murder case is scheduled for December 2. His first appearance on the new assault charge is scheduled for January 29, according to FOX 9’s November 4 report. The assault charge remains an allegation. Collins is presumed innocent of that charge unless proven guilty in court.
