MINNESOTA — Damon Lee Boyd remains missing, with an unresolved discrepancy between official sources about when he disappeared. A newer Minnesota Department of Public Safety flyer lists 04/30/2014 as his last-seen date, while the BCA bulletin and NamUs list 05/27/2014 as his date of last contact. The public accounts summarized here do not explain the difference.

Damon was 29 when he disappeared in spring 2014. Born on 12/17/1984, he would now be 41. He is an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.

Before his disappearance, Damon had been receiving addiction treatment at Douglas Place in East Grand Forks. The BCA bulletin says he left a residential facility there at the end of May 2014. Early reporting and the newer state flyer instead place his last sighting in the Grand Forks–East Grand Forks area on April 30. Neither date is presented here as resolving the conflicting accounts.

Several communities appear in reports about Damon, each with a different connection to his life. East Grand Forks in Polk County was the location of the treatment facility. His grandfather kept a room for him in Squaw Lake in Itasca County, according to reporting. He spent time in Bemidji, and investigators later said he was believed to have been heading there.

The Charley Project says Damon had previously stayed at Northlands Rescue Mission in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Its profile also records a possible mid-July 2014 sighting in Fargo–Moorhead and mentions Rosebud, Montana, his father’s hometown, as a possible destination. The sighting is not presented here as confirmed, and the possible destination does not establish that he traveled there.

These connections help explain why sources variously associate his case with Itasca County, Polk County, East Grand Forks or Grand Forks. They do not establish his route after leaving treatment.

In a Grand Forks Herald report published on 01/28/2025, search advocate Lissa Yellow Bird Chase said she became Damon’s legal guardian and obtained medical records confirming an emergency-room visit at Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji shortly before his disappearance. She described recurring hospital treatment for severe alcohol withdrawal. The article did not give the visit’s exact date, so the account does not independently resolve the April-versus-May discrepancy.

The Herald also reported that Yellow Bird Chase and her organization, Sahnish Scouts of North Dakota, had conducted numerous searches with her cadaver dogs. She planned further research and searches around Bemidji in 2025. Those were reported plans; their subsequent results were not established in the public material summarized here.

The Charley Project describes Damon as a vulnerable adult with mental health concerns and a history of alcohol dependence and treatment. These circumstances explain concern for his safety but do not establish what happened to him.

Damon was raised by his grandfather, Louis “Louie” Boyd, who died in April 2024 without learning what happened to him. Yellow Bird Chase told the Herald that finding Damon had been his grandfather’s final wish. In January 2025, she described the case as “completely cold.” That was her assessment, not an official announcement that the investigation had closed.

On 09/25/2023, a large search in southwestern Bemidji sought clues in Nevaeh Kingbird’s disappearance and other missing-person cases. KAXE reported that investigators were also seeking information about Damon and Jeremy Jourdain. Damon was believed to have been heading toward Bemidji in 2014. Including the cases in the same search effort does not establish that their disappearances are connected; no verified announcement linking them was identified in the material summarized here.

Key unanswered questions in the public reporting include the exact date he left treatment, the date of his Bemidji hospital visit, his transportation and intended destination, and whether the possible Fargo–Moorhead sighting was confirmed. These limits describe available public reporting, not the contents of the investigative file.
